Home intruder shot, killed in Poolesville, police say

Homeowner reportedly shot man while on phone with emergency dispatchers

A Poolesville homeowner shot and killed a man Monday morning who they said was attempting to break into their home, according to Montgomery County police.

In a statement, the police department wrote that the owner of a home in the 18000 block of River Road called emergency dispatchers at about 9 a.m. to report that a man was attempting to break into his home.

While on the phone with emergency personnel, the homeowner shot the alleged intruder, killing him, police said. When police responded, they found the man deceased.

The homeowner is being interviewed by Montgomery County police officers, the statement said.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation however police do believe this is an isolated incident,” the statement said.

There was no additional information available as of Tuesday morning.
