Detectives from the Montgomery County police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the Wednesday night death of a 53-year-old Gaithersburg man after his car veered off the road and overturned while he was driving northbound on Zion Road in the Laytonsville area.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the 1995 Cadillac Eldorado, has been identified by police as Marvin Dewitt Dutton of Riggs Road in Gaithersburg. Dutton was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police press release, Dutton’s car left the roadway, struck a fence and overturned in the 20400 block of Zion Road. Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the scene at 6:49 p.m.

A woman who lives in the immediate area of the accident said the intersection of Brookeville and Zion roads was closed around 7:30 p.m. or a little later.

“We went around via Georgia to Gregg [Road] to get home,” Deana Walsh of Ripplemead Drive told Bethesda Beat.  “We were wondering. Now I am sick to my stomach” with sorrow.

Police are asking anyone with information about the collision to call 240-773-6620.
