A 49-year-old Gaithersburg man died after a two-vehicle crash on Monday night, police said.

Montgomery County police said Tuesday morning that they will release the man’s name after his family has been notified.

The crash happened at the intersection of Midcounty Highway and Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard in Gaithersburg.

Police said in a press release that the man who died was driving a 2018 Honda CRV. He was traveling north on Midcounty Highway and tried to turn left onto Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard.

A 2021 Toyota Camry was traveling south on Midcounty Highway. The Camry and the CRV crashed in the southbound lanes of Midcounty Highway.

The CRV began to roll and struck a large metal traffic-light support pole before falling on its side, police said.

Police and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service got to the scene at about 7:52 p.m.

Fire & Rescue Service personnel pulled both drivers from their vehicles.

The CRV driver was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead there.

The Camry driver, who police did not identify, was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call them at 240-773-6620.
