A Cabin John house was heavily damaged by fire early Monday morning, causing more than $800,000 according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue officials.

The fire happened around 2:45 a.m. at 7601 Persimmon Tree Lane, which is near Carderock Springs Elementary School. Fire and rescue spokesman Pete Piringer wrote on Twitter that the one person in the home “got out ok” after discovering the smoke and calling 911 from a neighbor’s home.

The fire likely started in the kitchen, Piringer wrote.

Photos Piringer posted on Twitter show flames and smoke coming from behind the garage, burned-out doors and windows, and debris littered in the back of the house.

According to Piringer, more than 80 firefighters responded to the house fire, which was “pretty significant” and caused more than $800,000 in damage. By 6:15 a.m., he said in a video, the fire was under control but firefighters were checking for hot spots.

Persimmon Tree Lane was blocked for several hours because of the fire, but reopened around 10:30 a.m., according to Piringer.
