A fire damaged a two-story house in Gaithersburg early Thursday morning, with flames burning the second floor and roof.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer posted on Twitter that firefighters were called to 16 Marquis Drive around 1 a.m. on Thursday.

The fire was stretching through the roof of a two-story single-family house, he wrote.

Piringer wrote that the family who lived there was out of town at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

Piringer told Bethesda Beat on Thursday that he didn’t yet have additional details about the cause or extent of the damage to the house, and he was trying to find out more from investigators.

The fire occurred in a neighborhood near Diamond Elementary School and Great Seneca Highway.
