A fire caused more than $900,000 worth of damage to a home in Potomac on Monday, according to a Montgomery Fire and Rescue Service official.

The fire caused “a good portion” of the roof to collapse on a single-family house in the 9000 block of Holly Leaf Lane, Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said in a video clip he posted at the scene.

Two people who were inside the house got out safely, Piringer said. No one was injured.

In a follow-up post on Twitter, Piringer wrote homeowners reported that a fire had been burning in a fireplace, starting at about 2:30 p.m. Later, they heard a noise and saw the roof burning near the chimney, he wrote.

Firefighters were sent to the scene at about 4 p.m. and found “heavy fire conditions,” according to Piringer.

About 65 firefighters responded to the call.

Holly Leaf Lane is off Persimmon Tree Road, near Interstate 495 and River Road.
