An 89-year-old father is dead and his 67-year-old son is in critical condition after an apparent murder-suicide attempt occurred over the weekend in a secluded commuter parking lot along Norbeck Road in Rockville, Montgomery County police reported.

At approximately 4:13 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a call at a Park and Ride parking lot on the west side of Norbeck Road and approximately one-quarter mile east of Georgia Avenue. There officers found Thomas Willey and his son, Thomas “Greg” Willey, shot inside a gold Toyota Prius, police said in statement released Sunday.

Greg Willey was found in the driver’s seat of the Prius and Thomas Willey, who was deceased, was found in the front passenger seat. Greg Willey was transported to a local hospital. The father and son lived together at Leisure World, a nearby senior living community, according to police.

A note believed to have been left by Greg Willey was recovered inside the Prius along with a handgun, the police report stated. However, police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said investigators are uncertain of a motive.

“Investigators believe at this time that Greg Willey shot his father, Thomas Willey, before shooting himself,” the statement said.

An autopsy on Thomas Willey will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. Results will be released when they are available, police said.
