A driver was killed after crashing on Interstate 270 in Bethesda early Monday morning.

The driver got out of their vehicle after the crash, then was struck and killed by another vehicle, according to Maryland State police.

Just before 12:40 a.m. on Monday, a driver crashed on the interstate while traveling north near the Rockledge Drive overpass, police said in a press release.

The driver got out of the vehicle and was then hit by another vehicle that was not involved in the earlier crash, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police did not provide additional information about the crash on Monday and did not identify the driver because their family had not yet been notified.

The crash caused delays, but all lanes have reopened, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.
