A man was found dead inside of a Silver Spring house that burned Friday night, according to a fire official.
At about 9:25 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue services responded to multiple reports of a fire at a home in the 10000 block of Lorain Avenue, off University Boulevard, near Montgomery Blair High School, according to spokesman Pete Piringer.
When firefighters arrived, they found “heavy fire conditions” with flames showing from multiple second-story windows, Piringer said.
The man’s body was found among debris in a hallway on the second floor. He has not been identified publicly, but Piringer said he was the only person in the home. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the man’s cause of death.
The fire started in an upstairs bedroom, but the cause has not been determined, Piringer said, describing “likely hoarding conditions” inside the home. The damage to the home is estimated at about $600,000.
About 85 firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the call, according to Piringer.
