PHOTOS: Checking In On Bethesda’s Building Boom

In April, we took a look at a dozen downtown Bethesda construction projects.

Two of those projects (Bainbridge Bethesda and 4500 East West) have been completed and most of the rest have progressed significantly.

8300 Wisconsin

What was there: Vacant lot

What’s coming: 360-residential units and a 55,000-square foot Harris Teeter grocery store at Wisconsin Avenue and Battery Lane.

7770 Norfolk

What was there: Restaurants and retail, including Foong Lin and Haandi

What’s coming: 17-story, 250-unit apartment building with 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.

The Lauren

What was there: The Hampden Apartments, detached house used as a business and parking lot

What’s coming: Eight-story, 40-unit luxury condo building boasting the area’s most expensive condo listing ever at $10.5 million.

Developer: 1788 Holdings

Lot 31

What was there: A pair of Montgomery County public parking lots

What’s coming: The Flats, a 186-unit apartment building, and The Darcy, a 64-unit condominium building above a new 940-space Montgomery County parking garage. Ground floor tenants will include Paul Bakery, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Chop’t Creative Salad Company,  a luxury dining concept from Silver Diner and upscale seafood restaurant PassionFish.

7001 Arlington Road

What was there: A U.S. Post Office

What’s coming: Five-story, 145-unit apartment building with a Volkswagen dealer taking over the ground floor retail space.

Solaire Bethesda (former Eastham’s Exxon Servicenter)

What was there: A gas station that served as the home for Eastham’s Servicenter

What’s coming: 12-story, 139-unit apartment building with a True Food Kitchen on the ground floor.

4825 Montgomery Lane

What was there: Detached house being used as a business

What’s coming: Five-story, four-unit condo building.

What was there: United Bank building at the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Commerce Lane

What’s coming: 15-story, 101-unit apartment building with 3,500 square feet of ground-floor retail.
