People will gather at 7:30 tonight for a candlelight vigil a block from the Flower Branch Apartments on Piney Branch Road, where a natural gas explosion two years ago took the lives of seven people. [WTOP]

D.C. prepares for ‘Unite the Right’ rally

In anticipation of Sunday’s “Unite the Right 2” rally, Mayor Muriel Bowser signed an order to activate D.C.’s Emergency Operations Center, and the Metropolitan Police Department says the agency is ready for the weekend, which is set to include a number of counter-protests as well. [WAMU]

Nationals ‘Swim Night’ to feature Ledecky

The Nationals will hold their first “Swim Night” on Aug. 22. Fans who purchase a special Swim Night ticket for the game against the Phillies will receive a Nats swim cap and have the chance to attend a pregame meet-and-greet with five-time Olympic gold medalist and Bethesda native Katie Ledecky. The event will fall just shy of two years from the game when Ledecky asked Bryce Harper to hold her Olympic medals while she threw a ceremonial first pitch. [Washington Post]
