Titmus defeats Ledecky in 400-meter freestyle at Olympics

In one of the most anticipated showdowns of the Tokyo Games, Ariarne Titmus of Australia defeated Katie Ledecky of Bethesda in the 400-meter freestyle, beating the reigning champion by two-thirds of a second.

“Surreal,” Titmus said, still breathing heavily several minutes after the triumph. “It’s the biggest thing you can do in your sporting career.” [New York Times]

Dog rescued after falling into 25-foot-deep well

A Montgomery County Fire & Rescue crew saved a dog who got stuck in a well Saturday night.

A crew responded to the property of Norwood School in the 8800 block of River Road around 9:50 p.m. [WJLA]

Dancers show off moves at Silver Spring breaking competition

On Sunday, Olympic hopefuls and dancers from across the country came to Silver Spring to show off those skills.

The first “Rock the Box” competition since the coronavirus pandemic began was held at the Silver Spring Black Box Theatre on Colesville Road. [WTOP]
