Third-party presidential candidate pledges to exit race if Biden lead shrinks

Third-party presidential candidate Jerome M. Segal of Silver Spring has written to 1 million Maryland voters, assuring them he’ll drop out of the White House election if Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s lead over President Donald Trump falls to less than 10 points in state polls.

Segal, a retired University of Maryland lecturer, is the standard bearer of the Bread and Roses Party, which he established and stood up over the past year after unsuccessfully challenging U.S. Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin in the 2018 Democratic primary. [Maryland Matters]

Bethesda-area students named National Merit Scholar semifinalists

Twenty-five students from the Bethesda-Chevy Chase area have been named semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

They are among 16,000 semifinalists nationwide announced this week who will have the opportunity to advance to earn scholarships worth more than $30 million. [Patch]

Maryland high school sports community makes online push to play in the fall

Student-athletes, parents and other supporters are making an online push to reinstate fall high school sports in Maryland.

More than 1,800 have signed the Change.org petition titled “Reinstate High School Sports in Maryland this Fall!!” [Fox 5]
