Pride Flag Replaces Veterans’ Flag at County Office, Causing Flap

Pride flag replaces military flag outside county government’s Executive Office Building

The rainbow-colored Pride flag, a symbol honoring the LGBTQ community, was raised by county officials Monday in front of the County Executive Office Building in Rockville to commemorate Pride month. The flag replaced another one honoring prisoners of war and those in the military who went missing in action. A Vietnam War veteran was upset that the military flag was replaced, but Council member Evan Glass said they are working on adding more rings to the pole so that both flags can be raised. [NBC 4]

Smoking cargo train near Rockville causes delays on MARC Brunswick Line

MARC commuter trains on the Brunswick Line began single-tracking at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday due to smoke coming from a CSX cargo train near the Rockville station. Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said the smoke resulted from an improperly loaded shipping container that was rubbing against a wheel, but that the container was not carrying hazardous material. Some trains were delayed as much as 80 minutes. [WTOP]
