Several Bethesda-area restaurants have been named winners of Wine Spectator’s annual international awards competition honoring restaurants offering the best wine selections.

Local restaurants that earned Wine Spectator’s “Award of Excellence” are The Capital Grille in Chevy Chase; Jaleo and Morton’s The Steakhouse in Bethesda; Del Frisco’s Grille and Seasons 52 in North Bethesda; and Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Gaithersburg, the magazine has announced.

The awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer “interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers,” according to the magazine. This year, the magazine honored 3,759 restaurants in all 50 states and more than 75 countries and territories in three award categories: “Award of Excellence,” “Best of Award of Excellence” and “Grand Award.”

The “Award of Excellence” is given to restaurants whose wine lists "typically offer at least 90 selections, feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style,” according to the magazine’s website.  More than 2,400 restaurants received the award this year.

No local restaurants received the “Best of Award of Excellence” or “Grand Award.” The complete list of winners will be featured in the magazine’s August issue.
