Hogan signs bill repealing Civil War-era state song

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Tuesday signed a bill that gets rid of the state song “Maryland, My Maryland” — an ode that glorifies the Confederacy, refers to Abraham Lincoln as a “tyrant,” and urges the state to secede from the Union to fight the “Northern scum.”

The measure was one of 226 bills the governor signed along with Senate President Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore City) and House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones (D-Baltimore County). [Washington Post]
