Mixed-Use Development Coming To Grosvenor Metro Station

Metro on Monday selected a developer with a long list of local projects to build about 550 new units and ground-floor retail at its Grosvenor-Strathmore station in North Bethesda.

Streetscape Partners, which built the Symphony Park at Strathmore townhomes just north of the station, won the bid to build on some of the station’s existing parking — near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Tuckerman Lane and just across the street from Strathmore.

The project will include about 6,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, according to a Metro press release. Metro will also require the development achieve LEED Silver certification at a minimum. All existing surface commuter parking spaces lost will be replaced with a new extension to the existing parking garage on Tuckerman Lane.

Construction is expected to begin in 2019, said Metro. Metro’s Board of Directors must grant it final approval.

Streetscape is also building the Bethesda Mews single-family home neighborhood on Old Georgetown Road and is partnering with EYA to build 153 townhomes on the grounds of the historic Grosvenor Mansion.

It’s Metro’s third attempt at finding a private developer to build on its Grosvenor-Strathmore parking lot.
