Metro Could Expand Late-Night Hours

Comptroller hopes to regain alcohol and tobacco regulation; Montgomery County warns of criminals during holidays

Metro could expand late-night service

Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld has proposed a budget that includes extended the transit system’s hours to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The board is expected to vote this winter [WTOP].

Franchot hopes legislature will restore alcohol, tobacco regulation authority

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot says he hopes the state legislature gives his office back its authority to regulate alcohol and tobacco.

The legislature passed a bill last year that transfers the authority to a five-member commission whose members are appointed by the governor [Maryland Matters].

Montgomery County warns of porch pirates, mock mailers during holidays

Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection is warning residents of the potential for porch pirates and mock mailers this holiday season.

Porch pirates are people who steal packages from doorsteps. Mock mailers are fake letters that appear to have been written from a mortgage company or manufacturer [WTOP].
