Man arrested for attempted rape in Derwood

A 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with the attempted rape of a woman who was cleaning an apartment building in Derwood.

Joao Rodrigues, of Gaithersburg, is accused of grabbing the woman as she responded to a maintenance request he made regarding a first-floor bathroom. [Washington Post]

Maryland expected to cut about 900 jobs by early 2019

Several Maryland companies have announced upcoming layoffs by early 2019, totaling about 900 lost jobs.

General Dynamics in Rockville is one of the largest anticipated layoffs, with 122 people expected to lose their jobs. [Patch]

State GOP elects all-male executive committee

The Maryland Republican party elected an all-male executive committee at its convention in Hanover on Sunday. Former Montgomery County Republican chairman, Michael Higgs, was ousted as first vice chair wile another county GOP chair, Mark Uncapher, was re-elected as secretary of the state party.
