Kids attending camp at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds this summer will be in the presence of U.S. World Cup winners. The Washington Spirit Summer Training Center is onsite at the SoccerPlex, where national team members Rose Lavelle and Mallory Pugh play and train. “It’s inspiring,” 10-year-old Lauren Cunningham said. “‘Cause you can like look up to them and one day you’ll be in the World Cup.”  [WUSA9]

Potomac home collapses after Monday storms

The heavy rain showers and flooding conditions earlier this week caused a mudslide, leading a house in the 9800 block of Clydesdale Street to sink into the ground. The slide collapsed a wall of the home and broke part of the patio. All of the occupants exited safely.  [CBS Baltimore]

County police caution residents picking up packages

Law enforcement has seen robberies and thefts throughout the county stemming from meet-ups to retrieve online purchases. A man in Burtonsville last week was robbed at gunpoint after meeting with an online seller of a used cell phone. Police suggest meeting buyers and sellers in public places, or bringing a friend.  [WTOP]

Today’s weather

Highs in the upper 80s on Thursday, with plenty of rain showers. Storms likely from noon onward.
