Larry Hogan talks Trump, polls, presidential politics with NYT columnist

In an extended interview with New York Times columnist Frank Bruni, Gov. Larry Hogan distances himself from Donald Trump and said he wishes the president “would stop tweeting;” discusses the future of the Republican party and whether he or other Republican governors in blue states could ascend to the presidency; and shares his thoughts on the “blue wave” and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ben Jealous. New HQ2 shortlist on the way?

There is widespread speculation that Amazon could cut the 20-city shortlist for its HQ2 down again this month, asking for best-and-final offers. But secrecy about many of the offers remains. When officials in Montgomery County responded to a request for information on their bid, they included, among other items, a 10-page document of incentives — entirely redacted. [New York Times]

Rockville medical marijuana dispensary approved

Eight new medical cannabis dispensaries have been cleared to open in the state of Maryland, including one in Montgomery County. There are now 65 operational dispensaries in the state, with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission poised to approve as many as 102 by the end of 2018. The number of registered medical cannabis patients has grown to 51,569 people, with 15,163 patients pending approval. The new dispensary is Verilife at 5544 Nicholson Lane in Rockville. Montgomery County is the most populous jurisdiction in Maryland, and the only one that directly controls the wholesale distribution of all alcohol in its borders — but now its liquor control department may get an image makeover. [Washington Post]

West Wing Weekend coming to Bethesda

Miss The West Wing? Washington-based author Claire Handscombe and others are planning West Wing Weekend, a three-day fan festival to be held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in September. The star-studded weekend will include trivia games, panels and visits from some of the show’s actors. [Washington Life Magazine]
