Hogan announces school construction plan
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Thursday announced a “Building Opportunity Fund” that would issue bonds for school construction projects, to be paid back using a portion of casino revenues dedicated to education.
Hogan’s proposal would generate $3.8 billion over five years for the state’s schools. [Baltimore Sun]
Plush bears donated to help kids through traumatic events
Montgomery County’s Family Justice Center recently received 70 new plush bears collected by Adventure Theatre in Glen Echo.
County officials will use the bears to help support children going through traumatic events such as domestic violence and severe traffic collisions. [WDVM]
County Council reviews crime statistics
The Montgomery County Council on Thursday reviewed local crime statistics on Thursday. The data showed Montgomery County had a violent crime rate of 165 incidents per 100,000 residents in 2018.
According to the data, Montgomery County recorded 344 rapes, 589 robberies and 779 aggravated assaults in 2018. [WJLA]
