Franchot launches run for Maryland governor in 2022
Maryland’s chief fiscal officer has launched his candidacy for governor in 2022.
In a campaign ad released on Twitter Tuesday, Maryland Democratic Comptroller Peter Franchot, a Takoma Park resident, said: “I’ve been your fiscal watchdog and careful steward of our state’s finances. Now, I’m running to be Maryland’s governor during a time of unprecedented crisis.” [WBAL]
Child predators increase efforts as kids spend more time online
In the first nine months of this year, with school going virtual and children spending more time online, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children recorded 30,236 reports of online enticement of children, compared to 15,220 reports over the same period in 2019.
Montgomery County had 862 tips called in this year, compared to 408 last year. [WTOP]
Blair student is co-winner of Congressional App Challenge
A senior at Montgomery Blair High School is one of two people to win U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin’s 2020 Congressional App Challenge.
Teammates Kevin Xu, a senior at Blair, and Leon Si, a junior at Victoria Park Collegiate Institute Ontario, won Raskin’s challenge by creating a free virtual whiteboard application. [Patch]
