Company working on COVID-19 nasal vaccine looks to expand in Rockville

Vigene Biosciences, a Maryland-based biotechnological company whose projects include a potential COVID-19 nasal spray vaccine, is looking to expand in Montgomery County with a new facility in Rockville.

The new facility, at 14200 Shady Grove Road, will encompass 52,000 square feet of manufacturing space for its 125 current employees and hopes to add 245 new jobs by the end of 2025. [Montgomery Community Media]

Montgomery County tracking spike in vaccine appointment scams

As many Maryland seniors struggle to sign up online for vaccination appointments, Montgomery County says it is seeing a surge in scams.

Eric Friedman, the director of Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection, said he’s seeing numerous phishing scams targeted at seniors looking to preregister for the COVID-19 vaccine. [WTOP]

Former state Del. Hank Heller dies

Henry B. “Hank” Heller, a Democrat who represented Montgomery County in the House of Delegates for two dozen years, died Wednesday at age 79.

Heller, a longtime educator and union activist who served as president of the Montgomery County Education Association, was elected to represent District 19, which takes in portions of Silver Spring and unincorporated Rockville, in 1986. [Maryland Matters]
