Gaithersburg woman wins $100,000 in lottery

A Gaithersburg woman claimed a $100,000 scratch-off prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters recently.

The 32-year-old maintenance worker, whose name was not identified by the Maryland Lottery, purchased the ticket at Elbe’s Beer and Wine in Wheaton. [MCM]

Fire causes $1 million in damage to Brookeville home

More than 70 firefighters fought a blaze at a home in the Brookeville area, officials said, and at least one firefighter was injured.

The blaze broke out around 2 a.m. at a home in the 19500 block of Dubarry Drive in Olney Village. The cause is still under investigation, but an initial finding suggested that oily rags spontaneously combusted in a garage, fire officials said. [Washington Post]

MCPS students need proof of vaccinations

Students in middle and high school in Montgomery County need to have proof of vaccination by Sept. 23 to attend classes. Montgomery County Health and Human Services will provide free vaccinations at several locations. [WTOP]
