Council to vote on accessory apartments bill
At its meeting Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council will take final action on a bill proposed by Council member Hans Riemer that would allow accessory dwelling units, or in-law apartments (ADUs), in three residential zones where the minimum lot size is between 6,000 and 20,000 square feet. Detached ADUs must be limited to 10% of the lot area and no larger than 1,200 square feet of gross floor area. Attached ADUs must be less than 1,200 square feet except when occupying a basement. Owners would also be required to provide a parking space, except for ADUs located within one mile of a Metro, MARC or future Purple Line station. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the council’s Rockville chamber, located at 100 Maryland Ave.
