Every year, the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development team hosts the Buy Local Challenge during the last full week of July. This year, Marylanders are encouraged to eat at least one locally grown or raised product every day for the duration of the nine-day challenge, which began Saturday and ends Sunday. Here is a round-up of regularly scheduled farmers markets around Montgomery County to help you get started:

Bethesda Central Farm Market—Sundays—Bethesda Elementary School parking lot, Bethesda

More than 100 vendors and artisan food producers come to this market every year, which runs from April 1 through Dec. 30. Live music, kid-friendly activities and food tastings also take place every week. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sundays.

Freshfarm Downtown Silver Spring Market—Saturdays—Ellsworth Drive, downtown Silver Spring

More than 45 farmers and food producers hailing from D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia come to the Freshfarm farmers market every Saturday. Products for sale include produce, cheeses, oysters and handmade crab cakes, locally produced beer, wine and flowers.

The market operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through December. The market is at 890 Ellsworth Drive. A public garage accessible from Georgia and Wayne avenues is located next to the market.

Montgomery Farm Women’s Cooperative Market—Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays—7155 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda

Baked goods, sweets and handmade gifts fill the parking lot at this outdoor market in downtown Bethesda. Located on Wisconsin Avenue, this market features farmers, artisans and craftspeople.

The outside market is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The vendors operate as independent businesses so the hours for some of the vendors may vary.

Pike Central Farm Market—Saturdays—REI parking lot, North Bethesda

More than 40 vendors come every Saturday to the Pike Central Farm Market in the REI parking lot. The market, which began in 2011, offers food vendors, live music, family-friendly activities, chef demos and table seating. The vendors change weekly, so check out an updated list of vendors here.

The market will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 17.

Rockville Farmers Market—Saturdays—downtown Rockville public parking lot

Every Saturday through Nov. 17, the public parking lot at the corner of Route 28 and Monroe Street will host a farmers market, which includes vendors providing fruits and vegetables, cut flowers, preserves, baked goods and herbs. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Takoma Park Farmers Market—Sundays—Laurel Avenue, Takoma Park

Vendors at the Takoma Park Farmers Market offer produce, breads, meats, cheeses and baked goods all produced on farms located within 125 miles of the city. In addition to the weekly vendors, street performers regularly line the sidewalks.

The market at 6909 Laurel Ave. runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.
