Don’t fret Bryan Voltaggio fans. Range, the "Top Chef" alum’s Friendship Heights hot spot, isn’t biting the dust. The chef’s vague social media flirtations that an Italian concept is coming to 5335 Wisconsin Avenue NW, which is the address of Range, left some to speculate whether Voltaggio is opening a new space within the Chevy Chase Pavilion or rebooting the year-old Range. It turns out the answer to both questions is no.
When asked via Twitter if Range was changing its name, the chef responded "…RANGE does not go anywhere."
A source familiar with Voltaggio’s plans told Table Talk that the chef is opening Aggio, an Italian concept which will actually be located within Range.
According to a listing on Open Table (which is now accepting reservations), the concept is Italian for $30 and under. This dovetails with a promotional video that shows the chef making pasta and meatballs. According to the official Web site for Aggio, it looks as if the restaurant within a restaurant will only be available on certain days and times: Wed.-Sun. 5 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.; Fri. & Sat. 5 p.m.-11 p.m.
Aggio will debut Feb. 14.
