Rockville Pike will soon be getting a slice of the Southwest.

The Texas chain Chuy’s announced Friday it’s planning to open its first Maryland location in Rockville in October. The restaurant is building out a 7,300-square-foot space at Federal Plaza where Ruby Tuesday used to be.

Chuy’s has opened four restaurants in Northern Virginia in the past two years. The company said in 2014 it expects to open about a dozen restaurants in the Washington, D.C.-area.

The Tex-Mex restaurant was founded in 1982 and bought by a private equity firm in 2006, which took it public in 2012. The chain currently has more than 50 locations.

The restaurants serve quesadillas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas and other Tex-Mex staples, while the bar offers margaritas made with fresh-squeezed lime juice.
