South Street Steaks has been closed since mid-July 2018 after a truck damaged a wall, but a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page in July it would open as soon as repairs were completed.

Construction was halted by the county after a stop-work order was issued in December, then resumed and has largely concluded.

A leasing sign from The Greenhill Companies, based in Bethesda, recently went up on the restaurant’s now-completed facade.

A representative from the real estate group confirmed the tenant was no longer there and the property at 4856 Cordell Ave. is now available.

Golden Samovar celebrates spring New Year

Authentic Russian restaurant Golden Samovar in Rockville will host a Nowruz celebration on Friday, welcoming in the Persian New Year and spring.

“For my family growing up, Navruz has been a celebration of growth and a looking forward to a new day,” Golden Samovar owner Ika Nasimova said in a statement. “I wanted to share that sense of optimism with the community so we can celebrate our differences and the peace that comes with cultural understanding.”

The restaurant hosted a similar event last year and 75 people attended.
