Quiznos closes permanently in Bethesda

The sandwich chain Quiznos has permanently closed its shop in downtown Bethesda at 4801 Montgomery Lane. A salesperson at the Rockville location confirmed the closing to Bethesda Beat Monday morning.

Downtown Bethesda was once home to two Quiznos locations, but one on St. Elmo Avenue closed in 2014.

With the Bethesda closing, Montgomery County’s last remaining Quiznos is at 1611 E. Gude Drive in Rockville.

Robert Dyer previously reported last week that the Bethesda location was closing.

About 50 restaurants participating that were hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic will participate, according to a press release.

Customers who visit at least three restaurants during the week will be eligible for a raffle drawing that includes cash prizes of $100, $250 and $500. Customers enter the drawing by submitting their receipts.

A list of participating restaurants can be found on Taste the World’s website.

County, Rockville partner with Federal Realty on Streetery on Gibbs

Montgomery County and the city of Rockville have partnered with landlord Federal Realty Investment Trust to create Rockville Town Square’s Streetery on Gibbs, Federal Realty announced last week.

“Streeteries” are streets that have been closed to vehicle traffic and replaced with tables and chairs to increase the amount of available space for outdoor dining during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bethesda and other areas of Montgomery County have been maintaining Streeteries during the past year.

The Streetery on Gibbs is 15,000 square feet and features seating areas and pods for more than 70 people, according to a press release. It will serve the restaurants Finnegan’s Wake, La Canela and First Watch, as well as Plaza Oaxaca, a Mexican restaurant opening next month.
