Duck Donuts coming to Rockville

A donut chain that began in North Carolina’s Outer Banks is opening a location on Rockville Pike. Duck Donuts has already built out a new store at 1327 Rockville Pike, next to Woodmont Country Club. The chain said Friday on its Facebook page that it plans to open soon. The business, which has more than two dozen locations on the East Coast, specializes in vanilla cake donuts with a variety of toppings and also serves coffee and other breakfast items including yogurt, muffins and fruit.

Bobby Flay to appear in Bethesda

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay is scheduled to appear in Bethesda next month. The chef will be in town March 8 to check in at his Bobby’s Burger Palace restaurant at Westfield Montgomery mall. A spokeswoman for Flay said the chef will be working in the kitchen with staff as well as meeting and greeting customers who stop by the restaurant.

In another Flay connection, Chef Jon Wassil of Redwood Restaurant and Bar in Bethesda competed against Flay on the Food Network show Beat Bobby Flay. The episode featuring Wassil is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. April 30. To celebrate, Redwood is hosting a pre-show party at the Bethesda Row restaurant from 4 to 8:30 p.m. with drinks, appetizers and the signature dish Wassil prepared in the episode. In the show, chefs have the opportunity to compete one-on-one against Flay in a cooking competition and then judges select a winner.
