Here’s a sampling of news around town:

Mix Bar and Grille, the casual Potomac redo of Bezu Restaurant, opened on Thursday, September 26. Right now, it’s only open for dinner, but lunch service starts Monday, October 7. For more details, see my blogs, July 12, 2013 and September 17, 2013.

Devotees of duck may want to consider the collaborative five-course dinner at Range restaurant on Thursday, November 1. In honor of restaurant cook and journalist Hank Shaw’s new book, “Duck Duck Goose: The Ultimate Guide to Cooking Waterfowl, Both Farmed and Wild” (Ten Speed Press), Range’s chef Bryan Voltaggio will be joined by a host of other top toques to cook up a duck-centric dinner.

Tickets, which are $100 each, $145 with wine (including tax and gratuity), are available at http://www.bryanvoltaggio.com/#store. After purchasing your ticket, call Range at 202-803-8016 and ask for Tracy Kinnahan to finalize the reservation. Seatings are at 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Drinking while painting may not seem like naturally compatible activities, but if your palate is up for a palette, check out the schedule at local bars for Paint Nite. The venue provides the cocktails, the artist, a 16-by-20-inch canvas, acrylic paints, brushes, a smock, and a set painting that everyone attempts to replicate.

Bethesda’s BlackFinn Saloon has been hosting the events; the next one is Tuesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. McGinty’s and Scion, both in Silver Spring, are also on the schedule for November. See http://www.paintnite.com/pages/events/index/dc#date:1 for details.

A few changes are afoot at Shangri-La, the Indian and Nepalese restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue. The place is under new management and now features daily specials, both on the lunch buffet and at dinner, and will be hosting wine dinners (and possibly cooking classes in the future). The first wine event, which includes a three-course dinner with four different wines, will be Friday, October 18; the second, on Friday, October 25. Cost is $45, excluding tax and gratuity. To reserve, call Anthony Jackson at 301-656-4444.
