Imagination Stage welcomes new partner Henry’s Sweet Retreat at Saturday ribbon-cutting ceremony

Imagination Stage unveiled a newly renovated lobby area Saturday evening during a ribbon-cutting ceremony that features a sweet shop operated by Henry’s Sweet Retreat, a Bethesda candy store and dessert bar, and a new children’s interactive zone. The renovations were partly funded by the state of Maryland, and several state and county dignitaries were on hand for the ceremony, according to a press release from the theater.

The new sweet shop will serve coffee, baked goods, candy and newly tested items, including flavored popcorn and fudge.

“This is sort of a second location, only on a much smaller scale,” Henry’s Sweet Retreat owner Patty Craver said. “It’s local businesses working together. The coffee we sell, Bump ‘n Grind, is from Silver Spring.” Henry’s Sweet Retreat’s main location is at 4823 St. Elmo Ave.

The theater’s new lobby area  with a “modern family-focused design,” called the Imagination Zone, provides a space for kids and parents and caregivers to explore with educational and creative play, according to Imagination Stage.

“Kids can try their hand at costume design, learn a dance from Cinderella, share their opinion on the show, explore books, and more,” the press release said.

The drive runs through Nov. 23, according to a company press release.

On Tuesday Giant Food also will donate 1,000 turkeys to Feeding America. The turkeys will be dispersed through Feeding America’s five Maryland affiliates: The Maryland Food Bank, Capital Area Food Bank, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Food Bank of Delaware and Fredericksburg Food Bank.

A children’s menu will include different types of sliders, fried chicken fingers and mac and cheese. Dinner will be from noon to 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and reservations are required. City Perch’s regular menu will be unavailable.
