China Garden set to open
The dim sum restaurant will open on Friday in Rockville, two years after it closed in Arlington.
Owner Chris Zhu had planned to reopen China Garden in the former REI space at 1701 Rockville Pike, but lease negotiations fell through in May 2018.
Zhu then set her sights on at 11333 Woodglen Drive, the former Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar spot. China Garden was slated to open by the end of 2018 but construction delays pushed the date back.
The restaurant will serve Cantonese cuisine, along with a daily dim sum menu for lunch and pushcarts operating on the weekends.
“We know you all wait long enough,” Zhu said in a Facebook post announcing the opening. “… We are excited to serve you again.”
Chef José Andrés partners with Citi Open
The Bethesda resident and his ThinkFoodGroup team will provide food at the tennis tournament later this month in Washington, D.C.
Tournament officials announced a partnership with Andrés and Levy Restaurants, a Chicago-based hospitality company, to create a new fan experience at the 2019 Citi Open.
“Guests at this year’s Citi Open will experience food and beverage unlike anything they’ve seen before at the tournament, inspired by the incredible culinary scene in Washington, D.C. and the culinary leadership of José Andrés,” Levy president and CEO Andy Lansing said in a statement.
Options from Andrés establishments Pepe, Beefsteak and Butterfly Taco y Tortas will be among the food and beverage offerings spread throughout the grounds of the Rock Creek Tennis Center.
Andrés will also have an area dedicated entirely to his work, known as José’s Way, which will have Spanish sandwiches from the food truck Pepe, a sangria bar and items from vegetable-centric Beefsteak.
The tournament begins on July 27 and goes until August 4 in Washington, D.C.
Garlic Festival returns to Takoma Park on Sunday
The Takoma Park Farmers Market will host the second annual Garlic Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Vendor stands will have freshly dried garlic, and guests including members of the Takoma Horticultural Club, will share tips for growing the herb.
Former caterer Sara Hayden will have complimentary garlic-based sauces for visitor to try out, along with accompanying recipes.
Dolci Gelati will serve a roasted garlic gelato at its Takoma Park location.
