José Andrés' Beefsteak Restaurant Opens Wednesday at Westfield Montgomery
The concept is known for its vegetarian-focused menu, but also offers chicken and salmon

José Andrés, the chef behind regional dining destinations Jaleo and Zatinya, is known for bringing unique concepts to the area and that’s the case with his new fast-casual concept Beefsteak, where customers can order “tomato” or even “beet” burgers in season.
Andrés launched the vegetarian-focused fast-casual concept in Foggy Bottom in 2015 and on Wednesday the Spanish chef opens the fifth outpost of the chainlet at the dining terrace at Westfield Montgomery mall in Bethesda.
The restaurant name comes from the beefsteak tomato, which is served when it’s in season sliced in the style of a burger and topped with pickled red onions, bean sprouts, capers, herbs and olive oil on a brioche bun. The restaurant serves a similar sandwich with thick slices of beets during the fall and winter.
Like a Chipotle or Cava Grill, the restaurant offers customers the option of ordering bowls or salads, which can be made with their choice of vegetables, sauces and toppings. Customers can also add salmon or chicken for an additional charge. The bowls and salads cost about $8 each.
The new mall restaurant fills the space formerly occupied by Qdoba and is the latest to open in the food court. The fast-casual restaurants Lobster ME, Blaze Pizza and Jamaican Mi Crazy closed in the shopping center last month.
Beefsteak plans to give away lunch for free this afternoon at the mall from noon to 2 p.m. as part of a soft opening to help kitchen staff prepare.
