Family-owned Mexican restaurant Casa Oaxaca will have its grand opening on Friday in Bethesda.

The tequila and mescal bar took over the former TacoArepa space at 4905 Fairmont Ave. in March.

Casa Oaxaca had a soft opening on May 5 with a Cinco de Mayo celebration but will officially open its doors on May 10. Soft openings are small gatherings, usually involving friends and family, designed to test out service before the general public’s arrival.

As part of the grand opening, the restaurant will offer $4 margaritas and $3 tacos, owner Raquel Zavala said. Margaritas typically run $10 to $12 and tacos are between $4 and $5.

A live DJ will play music from 4-8 p.m. and a mariachi band will perform afterward, Zavala said.

Casa Oaxaca is spreading the word about its location in part by employing a sign spinner on the corner of Fairmont and Norfolk avenues. When the sign isn’t in motion, customers can read a small message offering a free taco to those who mention the sign spinner.

The restaurant has Mexican cuisine, specializing in tacos, and is not similar to TacoArepa. Zavala does not have any plans to open other locations at this time.
