Food truck outfit Capital Crab and Seafood opened its first brick-and-mortar location on Tuesday in Chevy Chase, D.C.
The restaurant is occupying the former Arucola Osteria space at 5534 Connecticut Ave. NW.
Founder Tim Walsh said the restaurant is still waiting on some furniture and artwork.
Walsh started the company in 2016. He purchased Italian restaurant Arucola in 2017, intending to replace it with Capital Crab and Seafood. When his nearby restaurant The Avenue took two years to open, Walsh’s plans for Capital Crab were delayed, and he opted to operate Arucola during the interim.
He said a “lack of options out there” influenced his decision to open a seafood restaurant. “There’s just no place to get seafood around here unless you want to go to a chain like a Legal Seafood or a Red Lobster,” Walsh said.
The restaurant is selling a dozen medium-sized crabs for $84, large for $104 and extra-large for $134. Bushels run $425.
Walsh expects prices to go down as crabs become more plentiful from August to October.
