Construction of a new 375-home community in Rockville will begin this month.
The Tower Oaks community will feature 217 townhouses, 128 condos and 30 single-family homes on a 42-acre property on Preserve Parkway.
The EYA Tower Oaks project, to be completed in phases until it’s finished in 2025, will include three-story and four-story townhomes and condos in six-story buildings. The single-family detached homes are proposed for the edges of the property.
At the center of the community will be a “lifestyle center” to include a pool, a fitness center and a cafe. The center is expected to open next year.
Construction on the townhomes will begin this month and be ready for occupancy by the spring of 2020, according to a news release from EYA. Townhomes “are priced from the upper $700,000s,” the release said. Townhouses will have three to five bedrooms, plus two-car garages.
The Tower Oaks sales center is open from 11 a.m. to 6 a.m. daily.
The city of Rockville approved office buildings for the site in 1987, but that project was never built.
EYA and project partner Boston Properties pointed to the lack of demand for new office buildings when arguing for the change to residential development in front of the city’s Planning Commission and council in 2016.
