Three Silver Spring-area ZIP codes have about a quarter of Montgomery County’s COVID-19 cases

County added 383 new cases on Wednesday

Three Silver Spring-area ZIP codes continue to account for a significant number of COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County.

As of Wednesday morning, those Silver Spring ZIP codes have 8,218 cases — 25.7% of the county’s total.

According to the Maryland Department of Health, the ZIP codes with the most cases were 20906 with 3,366 cases, 20902 with 2,531 cases and 20904 with 2,321 cases.

On Wednesday morning, Montgomery County added 383 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing its total to 32,005 — an increase of 1.21% from Tuesday.

The county has added 300 or more cases on five days this month, and 200 or more on 17 days.

Montgomery County added one confirmed death on Wednesday, bringing its total from the virus to 894. 

There have been 42 “probable” deaths from the virus in the county. “Probable” deaths have the coronavirus listed as the cause of death on certificates but have not been confirmed by laboratory tests yet.

Two Silver Spring area ZIP codes have recorded the most confirmed deaths from the virus, as of last week.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, the breakdown of deaths from the virus by ZIP code as of Nov. 17 was:

Each of the other 27 ZIP codes had 20 or fewer deaths from the virus as of last week.

Across Maryland, there have been 188,161 cases of the virus, a 1.45% increase from Tuesday. There have been 4,363 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 statewide.
