One Bethesda Row business closed this week, and another will shut its doors this weekend.

By Friday afternoon, Sugarfina, an upscale candy store at 4808 Bethesda Ave., had a closed sign in its window and a “closing team” was removing the remainder of the merchandise out of the store.

Sugarfina, a Los Angeles-based chain, opened in 2016 in the former location of Knits Etc.

Members of the closing team did not know why the store was closing.

Modern Market, a farm-to-table restaurant emphasizing healthy food at 4930 Elm St., will close Saturday, according to a sign in its window.

The chain, which is based in Denver, also opened in 2016. This was its first location in the greater Washington area. The location formerly housed Boloco Burrito.

Employees inside the store declined to comment on why it was closing.

Modern Market also has a store in Rockville’s Congressional Plaza shopping center.

Modern Market’s Bethesda location will be open until 8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The closings were first reported by Robert Dyer.
