The home furnishings store Room & Board opened Friday at 7236 Woodmont Ave. in downtown Bethesda.

Room & Board was founded in 1980 in Minnesota and specializes in living room, dining room, bedroom and bath furnishings, according to a press release. It opened a showroom in Washington, D.C., 11 years ago.

Room & Board announced this past spring that it was coming to Bethesda, replacing the Indian restaurant Tandoori Nights.

The Bethesda showroom is 3,900 square feet, according to the press release. It is Room & Board’s 20th storefront overall and first expansion in the D.C. region in more than a decade.

Room & Board’s Bethesda location plans to donate $1 per customer through the end of the year (up to $10,000) to the local nonprofit A Wider Circle, which works to alleviate poverty. Additionally, it is holding a $2,500 gift card giveaway through the end of the month.
