The women’s clothing and accessories store Lou Lou Boutiques has permanently closed in Bethesda Row, a company spokeswoman confirmed.

The store, at 7126 Bethesda Lane, closed due to difficulties independent retailers have had during the past year, Michelle McNaughton, a spokeswoman for Virginia-based parent company West Federal Retail, wrote in an email to Bethesda Beat on Friday.

“We have had to make some tough decisions and closing Bethesda was a difficult one,” she wrote, noting that Lou Lou had been in Bethesda since 2008.

“We are focused on moving our resources around in order to support our more thriving locations and help ensure their success going forward.”

Lou Lou has multiple other locations in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and Annapolis, according to its website.

News of Lou Lou’s closing was reported by Robert Dyer on Jan. 7.
