Two Bethesda-based companies make Fortune 500 list

Marriott International and Lockheed Martin, both based in Bethesda, have made the annual Fortune 500 list of the largest companies in the country by revenue, which was released on Wednesday.

Lockheed Martin, an aerospace and defense company headquartered at 6801 Rockledge Drive, listed revenues of $65.4 billion and profits of $6.8 billion in fiscal year 2020. Revenues and profits increased 9.3% and 9.7% respectively from the previous fiscal year, according to the rankings.

Lockheed Martin moved up eight places from last year’s rankings.

Marriott, which is scheduled to relocate its headquarters to 7750 Wisconsin Ave. next year, ranked 293rd on the list. The hospitality company recorded revenues of $10.6 billion during fiscal year 2020, and ended the year with a loss of $267 million. The company was particularly hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and was forced to furlough tens of thousands of workers in March 2020.

Marriott fell 136 places from last year’s rankings.
