Columbia Care Opens Cannabis Dispensary in Chevy Chase
The medical cannabis provider Columbia Care held a grand opening this week for its new store at 4609 Willow Lane in Chevy Chase. The New York-based company offers more than 100 medical cannabis products as well as CBD products.
The dispensary is the company’s first in Maryland, according to a press release,
CEO Nicholas Vita, who co-founded the company in 2012, grew up in Bethesda. He attended Mater Dei and Georgetown preparatory schools.
The Chevy Chase dispensary is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Rockville Science Center opening program center in Rockville Town Square
The Rockville Science Center is opening a program center in Rockville Town Square, it announced on its Facebook page last week.
The center, which will be at 36C Maryland Ave, will include afterschool activities, camps, science events and parties, the nonprofit wrote on its Facebook page.
Board President Robert Ekman wrote in an email that the center will have a soft opening in the next few weeks.
“We are not a store, but rather a program provider. We will run programs in the storefront such as drone races, robotics classes, a planetarium, and biology presentations,” he wrote.
The Rockville Science Center is a nonprofit whose staff work at Johns Hopkins University’s Rockville campus. The organization holds various educational events in the community and hosts summer camps for students.
UNFI selling Wheaton, Takoma Park Shoppers grocery stores
United Natural Foods, Inc (UNFI)—the parent company of Shoppers Food & Pharmacy—announced last week that 13 of the Washington-area grocery chain’s stores are being sold, which including stores in Glenmont and Takoma Park. The Glenmont store is at 2201 Randolph Road and the Takoma Park store is at 6881 New Hampshire Ave.
According to a press release from Dec. 6, the stores are being sold to three different “grocery operators.” The sales were expected to close between this month and February.
