A 60-year-old man is accused of telling a Hispanic man he “hates Mexicans” and threatening to kill him before brandishing a firearm outside of a Gaithersburg Starbucks. The accused, Mark Kiriakou, denies the allegations. [WJLA]

University of Maryland football coach dismissed

After strong pushback from the school community and officials across the state, the University of Maryland dismissed head football coach DJ Durkin. His dismissal comes in the wake of the death earlier this year of 19-year-old Jordan McNair, who collapsed from heatstroke during practice and died in the hospital two weeks later.
