Best Salon to Feel Pampered

Editors' Pick

Kindle & Boom

Hollie Perkins doesn’t go to Kindle & Boom just for a haircut, she goes for a massage. An “amazing massage.” That’s how the Rockville resident describes getting her hair washed there. The salon has an open, bright and relaxing feel, with a comfy row of couches in the front lobby. Indeed, it has many of the trappings of a luxury spa, from the fancy coffee machines to the fat stack of magazines. But mostly, co-owner Stan Sokolovski says, he and his three partners cultivate a welcoming vibe. “We eschew pretension,” he says. The 16 stylists treat clients—or “guests,” as they refer to them—as family, Sokolovski says. Whether it’s walking outside with a guest to give directions, or providing a client with an emergency cellphone charger, the staff goes the extra step. Women’s haircuts are $60; a single color treatment, an additional $60.
