Community Health and Empowerment Through Education and Research (CHEER) (communitycheer.org) works in Silver Spring and Takoma Park neighborhoods to organize weekly healthy food distribution for those suffering from COVID-19 and for people with diabetes. CHEER’s staff and volunteers encourage individuals to improve their health and form mutual support networks. CHEER also assists in health care insurance enrollment, operates a free summer enrichment program for low-income students, and facilitates community organizing events to help neighbors make their community thrive.
