A Rockville man died after a crash between his motor scooter and a car driven by a man allegedly under the influence Saturday night on Rockville Pike, police said.

After the crash, the driver of the scooter, Ross Stanley Redler, 56, of Halpine Road in Rockville, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died there, Montgomery County police wrote in a press release.

Redler's 2014 Tao Tao Scooter was traveling south on Rockville Pike. A 2008 BMW 335xi was attempting to make a left turn from the northbound lanes of the pike onto Congressional Lane, according to the press release. The two vehicles crashed just after 11 p.m.

Mark Steven Andrade, 24, of the 7500 block of Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda, was driving the BMW, according to police.

After the crash, he stopped his car on Congressional Lane and fled on foot. Police said they found him nearby and arrested him as he showed signs of being intoxicated.

He has not been charged with a DUI, and the State’s Attorney’s Office will wait until the investigation is completed to determine the charges to file against him.

Police have asked anyone who saw the crash or has information to call 240-773-6620.
