The husband-and-wife team behind Potomac’s The Grilled Oyster Co. is working to open a new restaurant in Cathedral Heights in Washington, D.C.
Valerie and Rick Dugan plan to open a second Grilled Oyster Co. in late May at the new Cathedral Commons development at the corner of Newark Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest.
“It’s a really beautiful development,” Valerie Dugan said. “There’s a nice mix of other restaurants and the neighborhoods are so wonderful around it.”
The approximately 4,800-square-foot restaurant will offer a similar menu to the Potomac location, which opened in September 2012. Diners can expect oysters served grilled, fried or on the half shell as well as plenty of seafood options ranging from crabcakes to Maine lobster.
The Grilled Oyster Co. will join other restaurants at the location, including Barcelona Restaurant & Wine Bar and Raku. The development is anchored by a Giant grocery store and CVS Health store.
The restaurant will seat 130 people inside with another 30 seats on a patio. Dugan said they’re still ironing out the design, but plan to “focus on Maryland design,” possibly including paintings of athletic watersports like sailboarding. The new restaurant also will have parking, which it will share with the other retailers at the location.
John Regan, executive chef at the Potomac location, will handle the restaurant’s opening.
Dugan said the success of their Potomac restaurant led the couple to pursue the expansion.
“We’ve had a great two and a half years,” Dugan said. “We love the people in Potomac and are really excited to expand into D.C.”
